Partnership Overview
The Baysgarth School Sports Partnership (BSSP) is made up of 45 schools
from the North of Lincolnshire area.
We are working together to improve the standards in schools by developing the quality and time allocation of PE and school sport for all 5-19 year olds.
We launched in 2006 and now approach our fourth year in 2009-10.
School Sports Partnerships are a national initiative funded directly from the
government and form an important part of the legacy of the 2012 Olympic bid.
The overarching target we are working towards it to provide access to 5hours of quality PE, school and community sport per pupil in each School Sports Partnership. 2 hours are expected to be delivered in curriculum, 1 hour after school then 2 hours in the community. (Above: Claire Farrow - PDM)
Other key work areas in include the development of leadership / volunteering /
competitions / gifted and talented and club school links.
The BSSP consists of 6 secondary schools and 35 primary/junior/infant schools, we have over 11,000 pupils in our partnership. Each secondary school has a SSCo (School Sport Coordinator) based there who are released from their teaching duties two days a week to develop PE and School sport in their family of schools. Each Key stage 1-2 school has a PLT (Primary Link Teacher) who is released 12 days a year to develop PE and School Sport in their own school.
New links have recently been developed with John Leggott and North Lindsey College to extend the offer to 16-19 year olds, this work is developed by the FESCo (Further Education Sports Coordinators).
The hub of the School Sports Partnership is Baysgarth School, which is where the PDM (Partnership Development Manager) is based, the SSCos, PLTs and FESCos are based at their schools/colleges.
The BSSP now (2009) has 82% of young people taking part in 2hours PE during the curriculum and 63% of young people taking part in 3hours PE and School sport. The target for 2012 is that 100% of pupils will be taking part in 2hrs in curriculum and 90% taking part in 3hrs.
